2011-2015 > Sideways Landscapes

It is easy to appreciate the spectacular beauty of a flaming sunset or a rainbow against the blue-gray backdrop of a thunderstorm. But most landscapes contain subtle beauties that are generally overlooked. It takes an effort to appreciate these subtleties. Our brains subconsciously understand that the sky is above the horizon and the ground is below. This casual way of looking at the landscape leaves many of the details unnoticed that could otherwise be perceived by the eye. I sometimes turn my head sideways to distort what my brain thinks it's seeing. This change in perception allows other details to emerge. Things that went unnoticed before unexpectedly appear.
